The company has also closed on Essen BioScience.

Sartorius Stedim Biotech has acquired MKS Instruments AB (Umetrics). Based in Malmö, Sweden, Umetrics is a specialist developer of data analytics software for modeling and optimizing biopharmaceutical development and manufacturing processes. According to Sartorius, Umetrics has been cooperating with Sartorius for about five years and in 2017 plans to generate full-year sales revenue of approximately $15 million, as well as a significant double-digit operating profit margin. Sartorius disclosed it purchased the company for $72.5 million from the MKS Instruments Group.

In tandem with the acquisition, Sartorius has successfully completed its acquisition of U.S.-based Essen BioScience Inc. after receiving antitrust clearance. Sartorius said that with “Essen’s novel, real-time live-cell imaging and analysis systems, the Sartorius Lab Products & Services Division is significantly expanding its portfolio in bioanalytics.” An arrangement, the company explained it entered last year by acquiring IntelliCyt, a cell screening specialist. Sartorius said Essen BioScience, headquartered in Ann Arbor, Michigan, is expected to generate annual sales revenue of around $60 million and a strong double-digit operating profit margin.
