“My passion is providing solutions that are the right fit for the situation to effectively protect people, the environment and the facility, without causing additional unnecessary burden or introducing additional concerns."

Brock comes to CRB from Eli Lilly and Co. where she was an associate senior consultant engineer. Brock’s 27 years with the company also included roles as group leader, team leader, operator and lab technician. Brock was the first woman to receive a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in 1996. She earned her Master of Science in engineering management from the same school in 2011.

“My passion is providing solutions that are the right fit for the situation to effectively protect people, the environment and the facility, without causing additional unnecessary burden or introducing additional concerns. When I can fit the solution into existing business processes or systems, everyone wins,” Brock said.

Brock has an extensive background in health, safety and environmental programs. She designed global requirements for the process safety management program for process hazard analysis (PHA), facility siting, process safety information and hazard assessments that are still in place today. She has expertise in conducting PHAs and hazard and operability studies, as well as other types of risk assessments, including failure mode and effect analysis for various types of facility and process risks.

Brock is an expert in the Environmental Protection Agency’s 112(r) Risk Management Program and has frequently audited those requirements at covered facilities. Her experiences on the owner’s side included scale-up of process from lab to pilot plant to full-scale production, bulk active pharmaceutical ingredient production, granulation and tablet production and packaging.

As Brock continued her work in the safety realm, containment of highly potent compounds became her focus. She relocated from Indiana to Kansas City to lead a manufacturing site’s overall health, safety and environmental program improvements, as well as the site’s containment capabilities when dealing with compounds with extremely low operator exposure limits. Brock implemented projects to improve the safety of buildings, processes and equipment, while keeping the site operational and utilizing cost-effective solutions.

“I first worked with Beth as a participant in our early efforts in the International Society of Pharmaceutical Engineers to establish a Community of Practice for containment and potent compound handling,” technical leader for CRB in St. Louis, Bill Jarvis, said. “We are excited about Beth joining us in Kansas City—expanding our knowledge and experience in containment design and process safety consulting. She is a great addition to our local team and a long-term friend of CRB, clearly sharing our passion for appropriate, safe and effective solutions for the pharmaceutical and chemical market.”

Brock is currently the vice president of the Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering’s Midwest Chapter and former chair of the steering committee for the Containment Community of Practice. She has presented on containment topics and enjoys coordinating content and activities that bring the pharmaceutical community together to share knowledge and experiences.
