Birmingham – Nigel's sweet home's Alabama namesake
Birmingham in Alabama was named for its industrial counterpart in the midlands of England. And this happens to be where Nigel was born, but Day 38 on The Road to 50 States represented a different Birmingham for him. It's equally an industrialized city, founded on iron and steel and the railroad industry, earning it the nickname Pittsburgh of the South. But naturally, the team's interests were the more modern evolution of life sciences companies, and they visited CRO, Therachem, and the Parenterals business of Evonik. These visits were conducted in the morning as they had a considerable drive to complete in the rest of the day to their final stop in Tampa, Florida. They got the famed southern hospitality in Alabama, having lunch with Dr. Chand at Therachem and enjoying members of the Evonik team contributing to Adama's artwork on the Lamborghini. The journey to Florida was uneventful but certainly long, seeing them get to Tampa long after dark.
