Anchorage is the gateway to a few hours of Alaskan adventure
Day 19 on The Road to 50 States is one of two unusual ones in the scope of the trip. Nigel and Lucas split off from the rest of the team and also left the cars – and car cleaning, painting, gas stops, and breadth of banter – behind in the Lower 48, as they boarded a flight for Anchorage, Alaska. They arrived in the Gateway to Alaskan Adventure looking for just that – and they spent their one day at The Last Frontier having an isolated look at Flat Top Mountain, exploring the metropolitan area of Alaska's most populous city, and grabbing views of the beautiful coastline and dramatic scenery. In the midst of the day, they had their only meeting in this sparsely populated State, visiting Glacier Brewhouse – a historic building in Anchorage – and interviewing Kelli Toth over what Nigel described as the best lunch of the trip at that point. After this whistlestop tour, they headed back to the airport to head across the Pacific to Hawaii.
