About ECRI:
ECRI’s passion for safe, effective, and efficient care is ingrained into the fabric of who the company
is. For more than 50 years, the people of ECRI have been unyielding in their work to protect patients
from unsafe and ineffective medical technologies and practices. Now, with the affiliation of the
Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP), ECRI has created one of the largest healthcare quality
and safety entities in the world. Part of ISMP’s mission is to work with the FDA and pharmaceutical
companies to help them avoid medication safety problems. ISMP’s wholly-owned for-profit subsidiary,
Medication Safety Board (MSB), works directly with the pharmaceutical industry to identify and help
prevent errors related to packaging and labeling, further assuring patient safety.
ECRI and ISMP are proud to serve the healthcare industry, from providers and insurers to government
agencies, and medical associations. The company is driven to always dig deeper in pursuit of advance
effective, evidence-based healthcare globally – it’s what makes ECRI both unique and a trusted voice
in healthcare.

How is ECRI contributing to the future of healthcare?
One significant change is the transition of healthcare delivery from acute care hospitals to
outpatient ambulatory settings and even into the home. This trend has been underway for a number of
years, but the COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated this seismic shift. Telehealth and remote care are
skyrocketing. Treatments and procedures take place in outpatient ambulatory care centers and clinics.
Patients are recovering or receiving treatments in their homes. ECRI and ISMP stand in the gap as
these transformations in healthcare occur – providing awareness of risks in an effort to assure
patient safety.
